How to Play

Play Guess Word online for free. Guess Word is a word puzzle where you must type in letters to identify the words in the spaces. Each of your guesses color codes the letters to determine whether they're part of the word. See if you can guess all 5 words. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

Starting the Game

On the welcome screen, select Play to begin.
Choose the number of letters in each word. You can guess words with up to 6 letters.

Select the gear button on the top right corner to open the following options:
- Speaker button: Turns the game’s audio on or off
- Enlarge button: Let’s you switch between windowed and full-screen modes
- Game Controls
  - Desktop
    - With your keyboard, type in the letters onscreen.
    - Touchscreen devices
      - Tap on the letters on the onscreen keyboard with your fingers.
      - Controls and indicators
        The spaces you put your guesses in occupy the center of the screen.
        The top left corner shows the number of words you need to solve.
        On the center right are 2 options:
        Hint
        Give Up
        The gear button is found on the top right corner.
        Speaker button
        Enlarge button
        Exit button: Quits the game and returns you to the welcome screen
        Game Play
        Basic rules
        Guess the word within 6 tries.
        Type in the letters to make a guess.
        Only English words found in the game’s dictionary count.
        Each guess you make will reveal whether a letter is part of the word or not. Check the guide for more details.
        The keyboard at the bottom center also serves to keep track of the letters.
        Guess all 5 words to win.
        Scoring
        The scoring in this game for each individual word is subtractive.
        You start each question with 100 points.
        Each time you make a guess, you lose points.
        You also lose points for using hints.
        Your final score is cumulative across all the words.
        Guide
        Black letters aren’t part of the word.
        Orange letters are in the word, but are in the wrong place.
        Green letters are in the correct place.
        Hints
        You get one hint per word.
        Each hint will cut back on the number of letters shown onscreen.
        Target Audience
        The game is suited for players who like word spelling games.
        The game has no adult themed content.
